Fished Long Lake Friday evening from 4:30pm to Dark, the fishing was slow to begin with, but as the sun went down, and we got to happy hour the fishing picked up, initially we picked up 9 smallmouth on jerkbaits and chartreuse spinnerbaits, I snagged in the many downed trees on the nine mile end of the lake, when I brought the boat in to retrieve my spinnerbait I saw several big Largemouth cruising out of our way. Putting our spinnerbaits into the brush from a distance we started catching the largemouth, many of which appeared to not have spawned yet. In an hour we caught and released near a dozen largemouth between 4 and 5 pounds, all on spinnerbaits. At 6:30 I got my real surprize, I got to watch a large Northern Pike frantically chase down my spinnerbait and inhale it. Five minutes later I landed the Northern and it weighed out at 19 pounds even, now I need a new spinnerbait, but it was well worth the cost of a titanium spinnerbait, I wont fish Long lake with any other kind just for instances like this. The fishing is excellent on Long lake, those who don't agree aren't holding thier tongue right or something.
