2/15/2010 8:11:00 AMAt least you weren't skunked. Regarding the hits-and-misses, here's something I've found that works 8 out of 10 times, especially in the ultra-clear waters at Roosevelt. Either quickly put the motor in neutral and almost stop the baits, or, quickly strip out about 10 feet of line. Both ways, I think it you allow the bait to appear wounded, and then it starts moving again. When the next hit occurs, it's usually fish on!

2/15/2010 8:04:00 PMAppreciate the info Lundegard, and we actually put the kicker into idle on a hit, and sometimes, whatever is there will take it when we go back to trolling speed, but not always. I've also sped up at the same time and have had a positive hook up from that, just don't know what will be successful. One thing I forgot to mention in the reports for 2/13 and the one above, is the fish were feeding heavily on mysis (sp?) shrimp. Most of them had shrimp spilling out of their gullets. The mysis have moved downstream, which is why we didn't have any success at Split Rock. I knew that, but have a "thing" for Split Rock, and we didn't have much time Friday before dark so we were rewarded with the awesome sunset instead. I expected to find fish downstream, and had heard of fish being caught at the mouth of the San Poil so it was worth it to me to give it a try. Can't figure out why my wife always the biggest fish though, just her luck I guess. :-)

2/16/2010 8:45:00 PMLewis - We'll be standing by for when you and Cindy decide you want to have a go at Roosevelt. We are never disappointed, I'm sure you won't be either. Btw, we saw 3 or 4 Bald Eagles on while at Roosevelt too. Always something to enjoy while fishing! :-)
