Think you are fishing too deep. We have been catching trout all month and they are usually in top 10-20 feet. Try a flasher unit with wedding ring and night crawler. Good Luck!

Hey Boogy...I haven't been out at Roosevelt yet this year...but I will be there Sat. I'm with Sgt Bugger on this. Troll 10-20' down between 1.5-3.0 mph using wedding ring (mentioned above), K-fly, Apex or worm harness all w/ some type of bait on them (piece of worm, maggot etc). Also try Rapalas, like a jointed perch pattern, if you have one. These are some of the things I will be trying myself...but I have definitely been skunked at the mighty Roosevelt PLENTY of times!! lol Good luck and have fun!

I fished roosevelt yesterday with my father-inlaw and his buddy.we trolled all around the mouth of the san poil all day we threw eveything we could think of. I luckily managed two bows for the day flatlining a slingblade dodger and weddingring in red with a crawler and pink gulp maggot about 150' behind the boat. one fish 22" and full of eggs. my partners both got skunked

I have two young boys that fish with me most of the time who really don't like to get skunked, so I feel your pain. We fished Roosevelt all winter long and limited almost every time. We exclusively used muddler minnows. We would try leaded line first, out 6 colors, and start working it up until we found fish. If the leaded line was keeping us too deep, we'd switch to mono with a 1/4 ounce egg sinker about 3 feet above the fly to fish the top of the water column. We would always tip the muddler with a small chunk of worm, and then add some Patzke Krill scent. In February we quit fishing for trout and started for walleye, so I don't know how the bite has been lately. Good luck!

Also, pay attention to your boat speed. We found that the fish were very picky about that. Depending on the day, they either wanted slow (1.8 mph) or fast (3.2 mph).

The bite lately has been much less active than the past several months. We have had much success trolling with leaded line and flies tipped with a piece of crawler, BUT, that combo hasn't worked all that well the last few times out. I think it's important to pay attention to location, local "expert" say the trout/kokanee are downstream of Keller, so fishing for them upstream of Keller is hit or miss. Certainly there are trout upstream, but your success ratio will likely be lower. We were out last Saturday and managed one trout for our efforts in the mouth of the Sanpoil. We'll be going out again on Saturday, and with the forecast for clear skies and mid 50s, I expect trout fishing to be slow. The most positive reports are now coming from the Spring Canyon area, so you may want to concentrate your efforts there. Good Luck!
