Got on the water late due to meeting up with another Hewes owner that had travelled over from Port Orchard. After meeting everyone, we loaded up to head out. Following success at Sterling Point the day prior, I suggested we start there. Not as much wind chop as the day prior, but still a decent chop to add some wave action and break up the light. We trolled for over an hour with nary a bite, so I suggested we try running to the mouth of the San Poil and try there.
So, off we went. We ran into rough swells as we approached the mouth, and even more so after moving into the San Poil, so we went about a mile up and drift trolled downwind. We tried everything, and not a bite for us. Our friends had a couple takes on the downriggers but failed to connect.
After we had trolled down into the main body, and nothing seemed to be paying off, our friends decided to make the run back to Two Rivers for some chow and visit with family. We decided to run back to Sterling Point to grind away the afternoon. It was worth it as I landed 2 fat rainbows, but that was it. Today was my wife's turn for goose eggs.
Conditions actually got worse as the day wore on and the wind chop was getting pretty bad late in the afternoon. Gear and setups were the same as indicated in my 4/30 report.
