2/2/2011 6:44:00 AMWe usually target 35 to 45 fow, it is easier to control your jig and you have a better chance of c/r the fish as to fishing at deeper depths which is much harder on the fish as you bring them to the surface. The weather was ideal to, about 30 degrees, overcast and some fog with no wind. The water temp. is 35 degrees so the walleye are not real aggressive but the bite should pick up as the water temp. comes up and the fish start fattening up for the spring spawn.

2/2/2011 11:30:00 AMI have never caught walleye before, but these latest reports are really interesting, and I want to catch some of these. I was at Roosevelt yesterday trolling for trout. Do you find the walleye first by fish finder then drop the jigs down? That was my plan yesterday, troll around, but if I graphed anything on the bottom, stop and drop some jigs. Didn't see anything except for fish between 17' depth and surface which I'm assuming were trout.

2/2/2011 12:56:00 PMI fish for eyes year around because they are so good to eat, are really easy to fillet and have a lot of meat on them. RWL I have found that the eyes seem to hold up in deeper water but don't seem to bite. I mark them on my sonar at 60 fow or deeper, but I have found that most of my success catching them has been in shallower water ( 30-40 fow) My guess is that they hang out in the deeper water, but come up to the shallower depths to feed because that is where the bait fish tend to be, at least in the winter months.They can be tricky to catch because they don't hit your hook hard, When your jigging for them they will hit your hook a lot of times as it falls back down to the bottom and then as you pull back up on your pole you will feel some tension on your line, thats when you set your hook. there not real big fighters either unless you hook a big one. It is feels almost snag a branch or something of the bottom as you reel in. It is not like catching a trout, especially a Roosevelt trout they fight good. I hope that helps a little.

2/3/2011 6:36:00 AMHey needATmusk, that would be me, and I know the colonel to. who might you be? You know about the giant T.M. hooked on 4lb test with a perch jig, that was awesome, biggest fish I have seen in a long time.

2/3/2011 10:12:00 AMyup i heard about that one. man he sure is a lucky guy, 2 in one summer. this is andy by the way. sounds like you guys have been killin em, i haven't fished in about a month now!!!! been real busy moving my parents and i moved to cheney. hows the hole been treating you. i saw you guys did good the other day. Thats a great place to fish you never know what your gonna hook into.
