Day two of the derby, and this time we headed straight to the San Poil. Weather conditions were much improved over Saturday, but the clear skies, sunshine and high pressure basically turned the fishing off, at least for us.

We threw just about everying we had at them, and managed to net a small chinook for our efforts.
Way too much sunshine in my opinion, but it sure made for a nice day on the boat. I even had the drop curtain rolled up most of the time we were there.

As with the day before, the winds picked up late afternoon, but nowhere near as bad. We had a run back to Two Rivers where we had great meal, got some t-shirts, struck out on door prizes, but beat everyone else back to Seven Bays to load up!!!

We had a great time, and look forward to tryin again next year. :-)

How long have they been putting Chinook in LR ? Thanks for the report. Andy

Andy - The chinook are not planted, they are spillovers from Lake Couer d'Alene, through the Spokane Arm. I've heard there are some really big ones (20lbs or so) in the reservoir, but there are probably so few of them it would be difficult to specifically target them with any success.

I found a little more info on the chinook here http://www.lrf.org/Env/Env-History.html, "Chinook salmon are not stocked into Lake Roosevelt, but wash downs from Coeur d' Alene Lake have been collected in the reservoir. These fish are planted in Coeur d'Alene Lake as a management tool to control kokanee populations. Chinook as large as 20 pounds have been collected in Lake Roosevelt."
