This is the fourth attempt at shad fishing. I always hear about how easy it is to shad fish. It might be easy in the sense that they hook themselves, but learning how to fish in the rocks is a different story.

The first two times, I really didnt know what I was doing and snagged all day. Last year I was using 6 pound leader and lost fish in the rocks. This year I upped it to an 8 pound leader which was good. I was able to free the shad dart from the rocks and the line didnt snap.

The first half of the 6 hours I didnt catch anything and neither did my friend. I was casting too far and my friend was trying to find just the right amount of lead to have a good drift withourt getting caught in the rocks. The last 3 hours, I caught a native King and 2 shad. My friend caught 7. We both lost fish and had short strikes. I have over 20 hours of shad fishing under my belt and only 3 shad to show for it. I will be back next year and hopefully I can double my number caught to 4 haha.
