Fished Getty's Cove Saturday (5 hours) and Sunday (2 hours) morning. Saturday we got one fish, probably 15lbs. It was pretty dark. We caught it trolling about 100 yards off the riprap - further out than most people. We were trolling in about 30 feet of water 26 feet down on the downriggers. We were using a dick nite spoon on the pole that got the fish. The other pole we tried multiple colors of Super baits and Brad's cut plugs. We were the only boat to get a fish that we saw - it was pretty slow. We marked fish consistently, so I'm pretty sure their were a lot of them there, just not interested in what we had to offer.
This was our first year trying for the salmon in Wanapum. I have fished below the dam twice - around Crab Creek. Similar results, 1 fish for 2 days of fishing.
Anyone else tried this area? Were we a little late to be fishing it?
Oh, the salmon was a good canidate for smoking (I think, I have never smoked a salmon before). I tried a fillet, no flavor. It didn't taste bad, it was just bland.
