Went out with my buddies Jay and Jim on the day after Christmas. We launched Jay's Thunderjet out of Ft Spokane and headed up-river to the first island. I caught a nice 20in Walleye on a jig after about 20 minutes of searching from 25'-55' of water. That ended up being the only Walleye caught all day. After an hour we hit the island up-river on the right, nothing, the first camp ground on the left after the ess bend, zip and over by McCoys, nada. After that butt kicking we went down river to Casino flats and continued our losing streak. So it was off to Hawk creek to catch some Burbot. Actually we were on the hunt for Walleyes but only caught 7 Burbot. A beautiful day on the water but Walleye fishing this winter is just kicking our a$$es. I hope they don't dick with the water level like they did last year. Between dropping it 70' and the whitewater above Porcupine, this has been an off year. Water temp was still 40F and visibility 15'.

What are the techniques used for the burbot and how do you find them? I've never tried to catch burbot before, so any info would be good. I know where Hawk Creek, and Casino Flats are. Thanks

We have been catching the Burbot using the same techniques we use for Walleyes. Jigs and blade baits. Most of the fish we caught this past weekend were drive byes, meaning most were hooked in the chin as they came to investigate. I stopped tipping my jigs with nite crawlers to keep the worm stealers away. It hasn't seemed to matter most of the time. I do occasionally spray my jigs with power-bait Walleye scent though. The bite on Roosevelt this winter is just not what it usually is. I have been fishing winters for the last six years and this is definitely the toughest one yet.

Did you try in 100' to 110'?

We only tried to about 70'. I hate jigging that deep as it is.

My wife fished Saturday and Yesterday with the same results. We launched at Lincoln on Sat and fished Hawk Creek up to 7 Bays. And yesterday we launched at Porcupine and fished to Bouy 5 on the river. Only one nice Walleye on Sat and two Burbot yesterday. Very frustrating to say the least. I heard about a sewage leak at the treatment plant a few weeks ago. I wonder if that is causing some of the problems within the Spokane arm anyway?

Oops, I meant my wife and I. Not to say she wouldn't go without me if she could? Lol...
