This report is for the last two weekends at Kettle Falls. On 18 May my buddies Glenn, Tom and I fished the flat just north of the bridge and boated around 150 walleyes. Most were in the 16-18" range. Tom boated one large female that was over 30" and over 10lbs (released). I hooked two around the same size but lost both boatside. The depth we were catching them at ranged from 18-35'. On 25 May the water was up a few feet and the fish moved upriver. Glenn and I fished just down river from Evans, specifically the green buoy (#19) and the white buoy near the island just upriver. We boated about 70 walleyes with most in the 14-17" range. Depth was 18-30' and back-eddys were the key as the current in the main river is hauling a$$. On 27 May Glenn and I hit the same area near Evans and boated about 60 fish. Size was about the same with no females caught, they appear to have spawned and possibly gone deep. I know these numbers are big but the key was using the right bait. Any jig color with a soft plastic that looked like a rainbow was key, they just killed it. My best bait was a Norisada blade bait. On the 18th I boated 10 walleyes before my buddies caught 1. The best colors were the blue backed trout and the green backed trout colors. I changed out the hooks to a red color and that also was a key factor. Even when the bite slowed down we could get a reaction bite with a blade. The arm opens Friday and thats where I'll be in my Crestliner. Hopefully the gradual rise of the river won't screw it up like last year, the fishing wasn't good for most of last year.
