Spent the weekend at Roosevelt and got in a couple days of fishing. Weekend weather forecast was not what I consider ideal for fishing conditions, but we still managed to put fish in the cooler. :-)

We got off to a late start Saturday after visiting with our hosts, but it probably didn't matter. From Seven Bays, we headed downstream for Whitestone. We passed a half dozen or so boats on the way, and found double that amount as we rounded the bend at Whitestone. We fell in line and I put the gear out. We worked the stretch from what I think is called Moonshine Bay downstream almost to the next bay without a bite before heading back the other direction. As we neared our starting point without a bite, I told Debbie we were going to troll a little further then out into the channel to pull gear and move on. In the hour or so we were there, we only saw one net go in the water. As I trolled into the channel one of my rods went down hard and the bait clicker was singing. Nice fight and several aerial displays later, Debbie made a nice scoop on a 3lb, 12oz native 'bow. After that, I decided we should stay there a little longer. Turns out we should have left as we didn't get another bite.

We motored back upstream to Sterling Point for lunch and shore break and then back downstream a ways to fish. Between 12:30 and 5pm, we put another 5 fish in the boat, and doubled up on the downriggers at one point. That was fun. :-)

Sunday is always a short day, so we started out earlier to maximize our time. Gear in the water and trolling by 8:45. Debbie hooks up with the day's best, a nice 3lb, 4oz native 'bow and we both put 2 apiece in the cooler for the short stint.

Saturday we trolled Frisky Jenny Black Ant flies tipped with a piece of crawler on leaded line out 155' and a pair of purple Apex tipped with Gulp maggots behind a 0000 dodger 25' down and 50' behind the ball. The Apex was the hot lure and accounted for 5 of 6 fish Saturday, but the biggest came on the Frisky Jenny.

Sunday was just the opposite, the downriggers, set up the same as Saturday, went silent, but the Black Ant Frisky Jenny flies were hot and went 4 for 4.

Conditions were bright clear days with temps in the upper 70s to low 80s. Surface temps were 67.6° in the morning warming up to 68.9° in the afternoon. Winds were mostly calm, with occasional breezes to ripple the surface, but mostly near flat water all day. The winds did pick up late Saturday afternoon, and we got some nice wind chop, but that was it. Sunday was just flat calm until we headed for the launch at noon.
