Launched at Seven Bays at 8:30, went straight across the river and started fishing downstream. Trolling speed was 2.3-2.6 mph. Water was 54*. We started with leaded line and 4-6 colors and a muddler minnow fly. No flashers, etc. had two fish within ten minutes. We kept going downstream just for fun. We did catch a couple more on the way to Sterling point, but just the standard 2 pounders. We finally decided to go back to our first place. We have several waypoints there from other trips, so I'm thinking that may be my new sweet spot. Right as we got there, bang. Two more fish. Turned around to go through again, and my pole took a big dive. BIG dive. Fought a bit and pulled in a five and a half pounder! I was super happy, took some pictures and set it back. That one was on a Lenny special fly, six colors of line, and 2.5 mph GPS speed against the flow of the water. It was a windy, overcast and chilly day. Topped out at 41 degrees on our thermometer. Great day of fishing anyway!

Way to go! Man, I'd have a real hard time sending a 5 1/2 lbr back, it would top my Roosevelt personal best by a full pound. Thanks for the report and pics. ;-)

Beautiful! It's been a while since we've had one in that class in the boat. Great job.

What did the 21inch weight? That 5 pounder would be tough to release, unless you don't like the taste of trout, like me.

Motoboat, the bigger one was the 5.5lb one. The tiny ones were 2, 2 lb 1oz, and 1lb15 oz. I just couldn't kill the big guy. He was scarred and beaten, and looked like a survivor. He was a native too.

Hewes, I had to weigh that fish three times. I couldn't believe it was that heavy. I owe the catches to you. Your tips made it possible.

Okay, I was not anticipating the largest fish pictured with the other 3. Was the 5.5lb released fish. Thought all 4 fish pictured were kept. That the 5.5lb would have been the 5th fish, was released, and therefore not in the picture.

I did notice 3 of the 4 trout had been cleaned (gutted). I did not think the large fish, picture with the dead ones, was alive. Now I am crystal clear.

have caught only one trout in the 21" length class. It was caught in a lake, weight was 3.2lbs, and a real nice fish. Your 21" was the same length, but nearly 2lbs heavier. The belly of the fish must contain some very large contents. Like a turkey dinner, with two helpings of all the fixins. Topped off with minnow and escargot for dessert.

That is a trophy class wild trout.

Motoboat, you made me smile at that. The large one in the picture was the 5.5lber. If I can, I will get a pic on here of how wide it was compared to the others. Remember, the ones by it were 2lbs, and they look tiny next to it. The whole fish was surprising compared to the two pounders. I didn't think much of it when we first netted it, but we did use two different scales and both came out the same. As for what was in its belly? I'm not sure, but the think was chunky.
