We are headed to sprink canyon on the 11th any tips for catching burbot from a boat? We should hit the launch between 6-7pm. Thought we would check into the hotel and do a little fishen till 11 or so. I have never been burbot fishing before and would like to give it a try! All I really know is you jig for them but no idea where to go or what to jig with or if there are much burbot around the spring canyon launch. any help would be appreciated.

12/31/2012 4:29:00 PMI haven't done much boat fishing for Burbot. I have found they are best fished where there is water coming into the lake close by. I fish them like catfish (cut bait on the bottom) not to deep (20ft max). As a rule if I catch one before 9pm it is a good day. Best of luck to you!

1/1/2013 9:29:00 AMHawk creek can hold a lot of burbot, caught two there back in November. We often catch them jigging for walleyes. The deep hole just above buoy five, and down river just near the base of the spit that forms buoy five in the arm also can hold a lot of burbot. Last year during winter we caught 40-50 of them between those two spots, all on jigs tipped with a crawler in 50+ feet of water. They really seem to like chartreuse colors.

1/2/2013 8:37:00 AMHawk Creek and bout 5 are the two best places to fish Burbot on Roosevelt. I've caught many of them fishing blade baits for walleye this time of year.

1/5/2013 9:27:00 AMFor sheer numbers, upstream from the Elmer city landing below the dam seems the best in the area. Caught a lot in past years. Haven't gone this year yet. Jigging Crocodile Spoons and jig/worm combos are both second best. Best of course are waterdogs, but they are hard to get. The most fish are found in the "swirl" below the 3rd powerhouse, but I don't think they let people fish there anymore (?). We caught about 100 apiece there in one night last time. And no, we didn't keep that many. That kind of keeping is largely what destroyed the Burbot population in Banks Lake for so long. We saw guys with small boats pretty much filled, to the point of a couple of inches of freeboard coming out of there. Good report!
