Three buddies of mine from work ( Mr KAZ, He who fishes well, and He who sits a lot ) took a trip down to the bonneville dam to try and hook up with some shad. We left at 02:30 am from the house and arrived at 04:52. The gate opened at 05:00 and there were only about 20 cars in front of us. We went to Mr KAZ's secret spot to fish, I don't know what was so secret about it, there were people everywhere. So we laughed about it and started fishing. It started out slow, my friends Mr KAZ, and he who fishes well, started catching a few, the people to my right were catching a few, but I wasn't catching nothing. So I went down to Mr KAZ and got educated on the technique. When I hooked my first shad, I was like a little kid, talk about a fight, I was using my 7 foot Cabelas trout pole with 8 lb test line, WOW, what fun that was. Soon I was hooking up and fighting all I could handle. I haven't had this much fun, since I was a little kid catching bluegills. I started out using a green jig with 1/2 ounce weight, then went to pink and a 3/8 ounce weight, which I kept the remaining day. We had a blast. We brought back around 100 fish between the four of us. Three things you need to remember, be very careful walking up and down the hill, due to the ROCKS!!! - While fishing, keep your weight out of the rocks, or you will be sitting a lot, re-tieing jigs- and last but not least- Don't catch more fish than you can carry up the bank. Ha Ha Coolers are heavy!!!! or many five gallon bucket runs.
