Launched out of Ft Spokane at 0600 and headed upriver. My cohort in crime Glenn and I fished some of the main river points south of hunters. We were looking for points with mudlines. I hate to admit it but this time of year the knucklehead water skiers and jet skiers are actually helping us out. All of the waves they create end up causing some major mudlines, we use this to our advantage. On Saturday we were able to catch 49 eyes off of these muddy points using mainly jigs with an occasional slow death rig added in. Most of the eyes were caught in less that 20' of water on the edge of the weedbeds. Average size was a perfect eating size of 16" with the largest a fat 19". We kept a limit and threw back the rest. Additionally we caught 6 smallies, mostly drop shotting half a crawler and 5 trout using the same method, all were released. All in all a great day on Roosevelt especially the very light wind, makes boat driving much easier.

Mudlines used to be alot of fun up the spokane arm this time of yr. I even used to walk around porcupine bay and throw jigs and floating plugs with a 3/4 oz wieght and just drag it threw the mudline with the plug floating about 6" above ot and it was a killer tacktic.

Nice report! The mud lines are very defined off the points right now and Saturday was a beautiful day up there. Wish I was there with the boat, but not to be, had other "commitments". Was there again yesterday, same scenario, but no one on the water (ok saw 2 boats). Nice mud lines coming away from the points near Seven Bays. Will repeat another boatless visit again on Saturday, but hope soon that will change in a BIG way in the near future. ;-)

Just wondering? Why is it that folks who fish this area and share pictures are experiencing poor fishing, yet folks who never include pictures seem to be knocking them dead? I fish this area a lot and with the recent weather patterns of highs and lows and extreme heat we hardly ever see a fish being caught, but a guy without a camera can get a boat load every trip? Just wondering.

I took a picture of our catch, I just didn't include it because they were just the standard 16" eaters. Everyone else we talked to at the cleaning station didn't do very well and the ones we saw being cleaned were only 12-13". My fishing buddy Glenn and I fish Roosevelt all year long, we definitely put in our time on the water and more often than not it pays off. We may not always catch the largest but we do pretty well overall.

LOL, hewsbob, many of us just don't take the time to stop fishing long enough to take a pic. The walleye are not really that hard to catch in Roosevelt, but until you get the hang of it (pay your dues in time), they can be frustrating. I remember one time two years ago that three of us brought in three limits and never even needed to move from the point we started on.... many of the fish were 20". That time I did take pictures, but decided that if I needed to prove the catch then what was the point. You can ask John at the fly fishing desk in Cabelas to see the pictures though. Like soberg, and CCTMark indicated, mudlines are best this time of year, and mudlines off of weed beds are even better.
Great report.
