After a morning of maintenance and repair work, my brother and I hit the road for Roosevelt about 1:30, figuring we could be on the water by 3 or so. On the way up, my brother told me this was going to be a catching trip, not a fishing trip. I sure hoped that was to be.

It was about 3:30 as we motored into my target spot. Got the gear out and no sooner than we sit down it was Fish On! Ken brought the first 3 in, the last one being foul hooked behind the head on an un-baited plug, but not injured, so back it went per the rules. Besides, it was not fin clipped and maybe only a pound, so better to let it grow a bit more. ;-)

The bite stayed hot and the flurry of activity continued for about the next hour before slowing up just a bit. Ken finished his limit first, and I put the last one in the cooler shortly after. Gear stowed, deck hosed off, and heading for the launch before 6. Boat loaded, put away, and we headed for home pulling in the driveway just after 8pm.

Since Ken doesn't have a 2-pole endorsement, we fished 3 rods, 2 leaded line rigs, and one long line mono rig. Water surface temp was 64° - 64.5°, outside air temp around 60° - 65°, trolling speed was 2.8 - 3.1mph.

Leaded line rigs out 155', one with a Frisky Jenny Trick r Treat fly and the other with a perch pattern Kekeda Fly. Both flies tipped with a piece of worm. Mono rig out 195' with a perch pattern Rip'n Minnow 65.

The Trick r Treat was the hot fly for the first 4 or 5 fish, then the Kekeda perch fly got hot and accounted for all but the last one which came on the Trick r Treat. The sole 'bow caught on the mono was the foul hooked one mentioned above.

Majority of the catch were chunky 15" 'bows weighing 1lb, 5ozs to 1lb, 6ozs. We ended up with 5lbs, 11ozs of nice looking fillets destined for the smoker!

Always enjoy it when I have a chance to take any one of my brother's fishing and this outing was no exception. It truly was a catching trip. :-)

Sounds great! We went out two weekends ago and this weekend. We were using your tips and had an amazing time. Today I caught two three pounders and so many small 1-2 pounders. We went across several times and into hawk creek and were running out at 280'. So far out lol. But it worked. Doing the same speed you were too. Looks like you were around Sterling point again? We had great fishing there last year thanks to you.

Steven - I think the most we've ever trolled back with mono was 225' - 250', never any more intentionally. Yes, we were indeed in the area "around" Sterling Point. Some of the best scenery on the lake IMO, and usually some pretty darn good fishing too.

Alan - Yeah, I guess we are, 3 hours on the road for a little more than 2hrs fishing time. Time spend with my brother made it all worthwhile. The Kekeda fly is a streamer style fly similar to what Frisky Jenny makes, but tied by fellow a WA Laker. I've been using them for the last year or so as he develops the patterns. This most recent version worked very well and I hope to give it another workout sometime this week.

Man, catching a limit on Roosevelt in a t-shirt and jeans in October... does it get any better?! Thanks for letting us know how you did. As Alan said, always a great report. - Dave
