Launched out of Porcupine at 1030 and headed straight up to buoy 5. The day was warm with no breeze and I started out trolling a worm harness along the flat just down river from buoy 5. I picked up a nice 19" and 12" dink on a green/chartreuse blade right on the channel edge. Next I hit the hole just above the buoy 5 spit where I caught 20 more eyes. Most were 12-13" dinks and most were caught on a green jig head with an avacodo 5" worm with a chartreuse tail. The bite was aggresive enough that I stopped adding any nightcrawler for attractant. The largest eye on a jig was 17" and I also caught 5 burbot to retain my burbot king crown. I was solo as my fishing buddy Glenn couldn't make it due to he was out looking at new boats. I told him I would give him a pass as long as his new boat had a full windshield so we don't freeze our butts off any more going upriver. I did eventually work my way back to porcupine looking for larger fish but never did find any. The bite died the further down river I went. One thing I noticed was the water temp difference, in Porcupine it was 58.9 and at buoy 5 it was 53.5. This temp difference may be why the fish were more active in the cooler temps. I also had quite a few of the eyes at buoy 5 cough up 3-4 inch perch, they are obviously starting to put the feed bag on for winter. Most everything was caught between 35'-60' of water. I will hopefully be back next weekend to see if anything larger has moved in.

Thanks for the report. Seems I remember a picture of you flying down Long lake in the snow...burrrrrr! Windshields and tops are the way to go for those of us who love to fish but don't like to freeze to death.

Nice report and good to hear the burbot are coming to bite too. Want to catch some this year so plan to visit buoy 5 now that I know where it is.

The burbot should be hanging around the buoy 5 area all winter so if they are your cup of slimy ass tea they are there for the taking.

Don't know if they're my cup of tea. I've heard they are good eating, but never caught one so don't know. Got to try something different once in awhile just for a change of pace. ;-)
