Headed to Two Rivers to launch Friday PM. After finding a slip, we tossed out a glob of worms to the bottom and within 30 min. had my first burbot!! A 24" beauty. Off to a great start. Saturday AM at O'dark 30, we headed to mile marker 25. Five minutes after putting out our first line, we had our first fish on. Over the next few hours it was fast and furious with mostly first year fish, about 14-15 inches and seemed smaller than years past. About 11:00, we thought is a shame to have come this far and not fish White Rock (Stone), so we pulled in the gear and headed down stream. We had the entire area to ourselves. The fishing was even better here. For the rest of the afternoon, we had a number of doubles and one triple with a total for the day of 40 fish. We kept only 8 fish, 3 of which were 18", 18.25", and 18.5". the wind really kicked up about 3:00 and we chose a great time to head back. Dinner at the casino and got to bed early, ready for the next day.
Sunday we began fishing right out of the marina and as our first rod was set in the holder, our first fish hit and another 14"trout was caught and released. We trolled this time to Split Rock. Probably should have ran up instead of trolling because it was pretty slow, with only a few fish here and there. Got a chance to cook b-fast during the lull. :) At Split Rock, our first pass was a bust. After that it got crazy. The rest of the morning up to 1/2 time of the Hawks game, we had a number of doubles and one triple, only one carry over (17"), with a grand total of 40 fish for the day again!
The lure of choice day one was the "black pearl" rippin minnow and day 2 was the perch pattern. On day one we tried a pink squidder with red corn which produced nicely, and flies did poorly. the "black pearl" seems to do well on overcast and rainy days; day one had plenty of that. We trolled between 2.6 and 3.5 mph, and about 3.0 mph seemed the most consistent.
Great weekend out with the guys.
