So, I hadn't been a very good Grandpa lately, and I grabbed the fishingest grandson and went the 60 miles to Priest Rapids. Checked out the island with 10x50 binoculars, and during 20 minutes of stalking... er... observation, saw one fish caught, so went to our alternate spot downstream. For the first half hour we went through several types of fly, and finally caught a double on a yellowish chartreuse size 14 whitefish fly. From then on it was one after another. Turned all but 10 loose, and his dad wanted about that many to smoke. Turned back about 30. He had a lot of fun, especially when he caught 2 doubles. He hooked a steelhead, but didn't get it in, but the adrenaline and the falsh of silver seemed enough for him. Fun outing, and cheap for gas. Size was average for that area, with a couple of good ones in the mix, and pretty good weather. Helgramites outperformed maggots by a little bit.
