It was a hard decision for CF and I to choose today's fishing location. Lake Roosevelt has been outstanding for us the last month but good reports from Rufus Woods had us wondering. It had been 5 years since we had frequented Rufus after the big accidental releases of Triploids. We broke that rule of not leaving fish to find fish.
We launched at first light at Seton Grove and headed down to the first net pens area. It took us 5 minutes to land our first fish, a nice 3 pounder. We had benn expecting 1-2 pound fish but were pleased with much bigger fish. We worked (drifted) multiple flats 10-25 in depth and found most fish near and on the drops into deeper water. We were using white and chartreuse colored jigs. We ended up the day boating 20+ fish with only a few under 2 lbs and half the fish between 4 and 10 pounds. We released fish until keeping the last four for the smoker.
Today the current seemed very slow. Water temp was 47-49. Heavy overcast but no wind today. It all made for another great day on the water.
