My Grandfather and I fished fished the backwater sloughs of the Columbia River today. The only luck we (I) had was at Buckshot, just north of Desert Air on RD 26SW. Although we did try other backwater, this is the only place we could get any hits. I missed two, and caught two, but the day was nice, and I got some quality time with my Grandfather. One Smally measured at 15 inches, and the other at 14 inches, both around a 1.25 and 1.50lb.
I tried everything, and the only luck I had was on a quarter ounce Round, black Jig with a 5 inch Kalin's Lunker Watermellon Seed Grub. I tried a variety of Rapalas, and even nightcrawlers on the top and bottom. Like I said, still a fun day, even though the bite was slow.
