New comer to the northwest fishing reports. Heard good reports that kings were being caught at vernita so decided to make the trip with my old man and see if we couldn't pull 1 or 2 out. Fish were rolling everywhere but seemed to have lockjaw. We were told by fellow anglers to head upriver to the hatchery creek area and thats what I did. I started off using sardine wrapped kwikfish and later changed to spin n glo and eggs and spinner and eggs behind a big jet diver. Same result, absolutely nothing. Also tried a hot tamale colored super bait with a pro troll flasher using the diver to get it down cuz i saw other people using that setup as well. We just couldn't seem to buy a bite. We are going to hit vernita again this coming sunday oct, 10th and give it another go. I will post an update. I don't know if we were doing something wrong or maybe not fishing properly. Any suggestions about fishing this area would be greatly appreciated.

Try fishing shallower with the diver/spin-glo/egg combo. 8 to 9 foot leader behind the diver and fish 8-12 foot of water. Also, try the size 30 jet diver in the shallow water in metallic blue. Not sure if diver color matters, just what I have caught them on.

Thank you for the tip. I will try fishing shallower this weekend and use longer leader. I was using about a 3 foot leader.
