Well my wife had planned our weekend without my say in it and had commitments with her family that I could have lived without. So off to Pasco we were. The prior night I looked on the Internet for locations near Pasco to for salmon or steelhead and what popped off was ice harbor dam on the Snake and ringold on the Columbia. Decided to try my luck at ringold. Friday night we left to Pasco arriving late Friday night. I spent all night looking for directions and techniques for ringold steelhead. Directions I found techniques, not so much, so what the heck they are steelhead right? Left Pasco towards ringold Saturday morning around 530. Arrived to a spot where an irrigation canal runs straight to the Columbia. Seen ppl fishing it but was sketchy myself. At first I thought this was the hatchery creek but turns out it wasn't. The hatchery creek was couple hundred yards more. I guess the steelhead cruise in and out that canal. Went for bobber and jig as everyone around was using the same and seem to be doing farely well. Seen around 15 steelhead caught before it was my turn. Decent cookie cutter hen but my first from eastern Washington. Heck my first in the desert. Im used to fishing around trees and forests. The view is spectacular and if you haven't tried ringold steelhead put it on your bucket list as these fish put up a great fight. Fished jumped several times putting on a great show and making me nervous as I was using barbless. Turns out they clip two fins on these fish.
