The last installment for 2015 in the continuing saga of the Voyages of the Tin Guppy.
Once again the Lord has seen fit to treat this old sinner far better than I deserve and thanks to fishindoc and elderhappy I finally got up the gumption to drive down to Keller. Really glad I did. The roads and the ramp were a total none issue, clear and dry. Didn't even use 4WD at the launch. Had my son, grandson and one of his buddies along, first time I had fished with four in the Tin Guppy but it worked out pretty well. We only ran 3 rods, 2 with leaded line and one with braided line and a 5/8 ounce in line weight ahead of the dodger. Only found 2 kokanee and 8 RBT but the Kokes were bruisers and we had a couple of holdover bows. I don't know what the actual air temperature was but judging by how fast the ice built up on the guides I don't think anyone would doubt me if I said it was nippy. The water temperature was 44.5 and the fish seemed to be grouped up in pockets. When you found them you were busy but there were a lot of blank spots. Don't think we marked a single fish on the finder so they were up high and avoiding the boat. We ran the lines around 150 ft back . Once again the Orange Kekeda took more fish than everything else we tried but having a smiley blade in the front seemed make the difference for whatever we tried.
It was a darn good year for the first year with the Guppy and Roosevelt. Thanks to all the folks that have help out by posting, made a big difference for a new guy.
Hope you all have a great 2016!

Part -Time, glad you made it and no road or ramp issues. Re: the Les Davis blades you mentioned on my post, is there a size you have found that works best? From your pic my guess you were near the tires or along the South wall headed toward Sawilla. We have been doing better along that South Wall. Happy New Year!

fishingdoc,
I keep trying others but for me the Les Davis 3/0 herring dodger with gold/chrome seems to be a steady producer. Use it on Roosevelt for Trout and Kokanee and down at Brewster for Sockeye. I guess there is a lot more setups I need to try and I should try them when we are actually into some fish and not just put something new on first and when it doesn't produce in the first 20 minutes take it off and go back to old reliable for the rest of the day. Hard to change gear when they are hitting though.

Forgot to mention that yes we were along the South Wall just below Keller. We were in fairly deep water usually 100 yards from the wall. Stayed in close for a bit but it wasn't until we drifted out bit that we got hits. Honestly didn't pay much attention to the depth finder, the boys were sitting up there near the heater. Really think the fish were more schooled up than when I was down on the 8th. We got bits just about everywhere near the east part of that wall that day.

The smiles on the boy's faces say it all. Amazing how warm it is when the fish are biting. Thanks for sharing - Alan

Thanks for the report! Just want to mention while fishing next to that wall, be extremely careful not to get too close. Ever since I saw a large portion of the wall come crashing down into the water a few years ago, I shy away from getting in too close in this cold weather. It was quite an experience to see. We first heard a loud Crack like lightning, then a loud roar like thunder, then noticed the hillside coming down into the water. Would of been a game changer for sure to get caught under that. Just a little tidbit. FYI! Never would have thought about it not have seeing it. By your pic, you were well far enough out.
Nice work, thanks again for the report.

Thanks for the tip Mcfisherson13,
Those kind of things don't happen often but they do happen and they should be avoided. When I bought my first home in St. Helens OR I could see the peak of Mt. St. Helens from our yard. Couldn't see it when I moved to Columbia Falls Mt. the summer of 1980. When I got to MT a relator tried to show me a place along the Flathead River, said it never floods since they built Hungry Horse Dam. I said no thanks.
