Finally had a day on the water that started before the heat really turned on and extended into the early evening. We came out of the mouth of the Spokane and trolled North from the hitching post past the split rock, picking up 3 rainbow trout and 2 walleye between 10:30 & 2, then the bite died for a couple of hours. One of the trout was 18+ inches long and at least 6 inches from back to belly. Great meat. Fed 4 of us! One of the walleye was too small to keep, morally, but the other one was 12+ inches and it went into the bucket. Another trout touched 13-14 inches but kicked out of our hands and became Eagle food… Beautiful bald eagle came right behind the boat and snagged it.
Between 4:15 and 5:30, trolling south on the west side, we picked up 4 Smallmouth Bass between 8 & 12 inches long, including one of them that came up out of nowhere to attack a rainbow Flickr Shad that we had placed in the water to keep out of our way while dealing with another line. It was pretty cool, didn't even have to reel that one in because such a small amount of line had been let out. 2 more walleye between 12-14 inches went into the bucket and another closed out our day, but he hit after the cleaning was already done so he got lucky.
A little more size to the fish would be nice. That one trout was great, but everything else was kind of small. No wind, though, so no complaints!
