I fished with a great crew today. Our perseverance finally rewarded us with our limits of big Kokanee. Our best depth was at about 75'. The bite was pretty sporadic until we found a small group of fish that were willing to cooperate. The small kokes and bows seem eager to bite, but it's the heavy thump, thump, thump of a big koke that gets my heart pumping. The big fish we caught today did not exhibit any signs of spawning this year. That means we should have some great fishing this fall and winter again. I plan on returning in October after salmon season to check it out.
This may be my last Roosevelt post for a while. I want to thank all of you NWFR members that joined me this season. I had a lot of fun. I learned some things from a few of you and hope I was able to pass some tips on to you as well.
Today's tidbit: I recommend checking your lines fairly often. Several times we had a small fish on our lines that went undetected for far too long. They all survived, but may have cost us a koke or two.
