Brother in law and I got out on Wednesday. We arrived at Launch around Kettle at 6:30. We hiked out to our spot and were fishing by 6:50. I was intending to use Power bait on one pole, and a worm on the other. I got my powerbait out, and immediately got hit. Nothing hard, but my impatience caused me to commit too soon. Missed bite! Rosy trout teaching me a lesson in patience again. My BIL pulled that fish (or another) in to the shore a minute later. We were excited. one bite, and one fish in the first few minutes of setting up. We haven't even got our second poles out yet. He got the next fish within the next 5 minutes. That's now two for him.
Just a side note PSA to this fishing report. If you see two guys out fishing the morning bite with headlamps on, excited because they've just caught two fish, do not assume they are in trouble and call 911. Prior to making the call, maybe you could confirm they need help, or just assume they are fishing and excited. Again, do not call 911 as a default.
While my BIL was handling that, I got one on, but it wrapped around the log off of shore and got off. I then got the next three fish to the bank in short order, and BIL got back and pulled in a couple. All in all, we both had our 5 fish limit in 1 hour 40 min. That is the best day of Fall/Winter trout fishing on the bank we've ever seen. All fish were the cookie cutter Roosevelt trout we all love biggest was 16", smallest was 14", most were 15".
Love this fishery.
