Launched the boat at Couse Creek at 3:15 pm, put the lines in the water around 3:25 pm. In about ten minutes my fishing partner Barb had a hard hit and she scrambled to get her rod out of the holder. The fish exploded out of the water. She said it felt like a big fish. When it jumped it looked more like a Salmon than a Steelhead. It jumped twice more before tiring out, and I slid the net under a tired Chinook that barb had played very well. We took a picture, then released her to fight another great battle.
We put the lines back in and "whamo," my rod is almost yanked out of the rod holder and we are into another big fish. After playing the fish for about five minutes the leader parted and it was gone. Did not get a look at it, but it was a heavy one. What a beautiful fall afternoon it was, glassy water, fall colors showing, a few fly fisherman casting lines, does not get any better than this. Hell's Canyon is a gorgeous place to steelhead in the fall. We pulled the lines in at about 6:00 pm and headed for home. Can't wait to get back on the water.
