I am late with this report again. Got down there Thursday afternoon for a couple of days before things at work got crazy and wouldn't get a day off for a while. Anchored the boat near the dam on the north side no bites. Friday morn no bites there either moved on down to the bouyes near almota best move I could have made hooked three fish in four hours one a little over 7' caught fish there all day sat and sunday morn. A total of 9 fish the best I have done in a weekend down there. This time trout was the key.

Thursday afternoon we wached that same guy in the black shirt and white late 90s early 00 ford pickup fight a fish for an hour on the south side below the dam we seen that fish jump twice. once he got it in I got out my range finder w/ width and and we measured it at 10'. later we were told he guessed it at 8 1/2' mister if you read this it was a great fight and nice fish and at 10' my range finder is off by only inches.

I absolutely love sturgeon fishing. I've been looking for some info on where to go? I just bought a new jet boat, and would love to go.

I had my boat down at the dam last week. Tried both north and south sides. NOTHING !!! I wish I had your skills. Were you at the bouyes at illia dunes across from Almota.

Mike Hutsell, we were at the bouye just down from Boyer. the depth finder showed it to be 35 40' and we were fairly close to shore. 5 of the fish were undersize. The one was 7' the other 3 were right around 5'. Also I took an old friend that new what he was doing not me.The set up from a boat is different then from shore. speaking of wich I owe my friend alot of tackle I lost of his. I got surrounded by the squaw fishermen they complained I was in their drift.
Xwiconyfishermnan we caught two during the day down there one 3lbs and one 5lbs. We catch alot of them but mostly during the day and they are just starting to bite. I have tried at night for them but I seem to get more cats during the day, true. before long the Sturgeon will go deep and I go after the cats.

This weekend I am going after the springers down at little goose. Two of my fishing partners did good sunday down there. 1 fish each and and big fish at that, so I am being told.

I'll be down at little goose this weekend also, when you use trout for sturgeon do you use the whole fish or just a fillet?

bjw44mar: Current is the key, look for deep spots where the current has a seam or dead spot. I use only a 1" X 3" chunk of trout wrapped with egg sack/ cheese cloth. Also my set up is like a drop shot sort of, when fishing from the bank. 50# Main line three way swivel and 6" of 50# dacron sturegeon leader w/ 7/0 hook then 18" of 20# mono to my 6 10 oz wieght depending on the current and my wieghts have wire grapplers. That way the wieght brakes off if stuck and when fighting a fish. if you go down most people are willing to help you out.
