Went to the Brownlee for some crappie fishing and it was very low. The lake at hewit park had no water except the river running through it so had to camp on the main river. Fishing was fair but would wait till it warms up and the water comes up for better fishing. Also caught some small mouth bass and catfish. Didn't have anything for bait for the catfish so we ended up using peperoni sticks and catching them. One of the worst nights was saturday due to the horrific thunder and litghtening storm that came through. Blew are camp around and destroyed one of our pop up tents we couldn't get down in time, but still had lots of fun. After the storm passed it was calm and hardly any wind so we went out for some night fishing. Will be going back soon to get them crappie!

Yeah we put off our trip for this year after we heard the water level was down and the fact that it snowed on us there last year, maybe pushing it back a few weeks would be better. In the evening and early am you can catch those cats with spinners by casting right up close to the shoreline, try it next time. Gotta love that Crappie fishery!

I have heard there are also giant perch in there. Try crappie meat for bait see what you get. Better use a big pole.

I haven't heard any about the perch fishing but will try the next time I go and we did use some crappie meat for the cats too and got some. The cats we were getting weren't huge but decent so there was no need for a big pole, just used my bass pole with 10lb line. BMGW thanks for the advice on the cats i will try that too next time i go. Talked to some of the locals and they said that the water should be back to normal by now but for how low the water was i didn't think it was coming up that much but you never know. My family and i are probably waiting till the free fishing weekend so we can save some money and hopefully there is crappie to catch still. If not cats are good too. Good luck BMGW when you go on your trip!

Hey russ2683 i am pretty sure there is no washington side on the brownlee just idaho and oregon. We have a boat but only 4 people could go at a time so we fished in a boat and on shore but on shore we mainly targeted catfish. haven't heard of the guy you were talking about but we stick to using crappie tubes and what sucked was that we had to drive down to huntington to get the jigs and tube because at the hitching post in richland did not have a good selection. Also a warning to anyone heading to the brownlee is make sure you know where working gas stations are because when we got to huntington we were almost empty and were going to fill up but the guy that ran the gas station was out of town and the gas station was closed also the texaco or whatever is no longer there too
