Went over to the brownlee reservoir 1 last time from june 29 to july 2 and also to pick up my dads boat and the fishing was terrible. Tried many places on the oregon and idaho sides for crappie and only were getting hits from bass and they were also small. Also the weather, some would say great but me growing up in western washington the weather was very hot. It was in the 90's every day and when we first arrived at the fishing grounds I fished off the bank and 10 minutes of fly casting in the hot sun I was drenched in sweat.
As soon as the sun came over the mountains it was very difficult to fish becuase of the heat, so we ended up doing a lot of catfishing on shore in the shade. Cats were slow as well only got 4 the whole trip. Tried all day and night for them and got bit in the morning, late evening, and at night.
However we did see a lot of carp jumping and tried for them using corn, bread, and anything that we thought carp might eat. On the way home we drove on snake river rd towards huntington instead of richland and saw many carp in back coves close to the top of the water. Even saw balls of carp meaning many others just surrounding one so thougght maybe there spawning. Thinking about bow fishing them next year.
For anyone going that way definately bring the sun block, I brought some but wanted to fish so bad i didn't put any on and got burnt. Overall still had a lot of fun with my family and some other families we met out there. One last thing I thought that was hilarious. I was sitting watching the catfish poles waiting for a bite and i hear a familiar tune coming down the road. It got closer, I could definately make out what it was, It was an ice cream truck on snake river rd. its just a place way out there in the middle of no where and you think you were never see something like that. Anyways had a nice cold treat for the very warm day. Also sorry for the long read but thank you if you read all of it.
