The girlfriend wanted to try fishing for catfish in an area she hasn't catfished and I had told her about Lyon's Ferry before so she made the suggestion on that we should try over there for catfish. So we headed over to Lyon's Ferry and fished the main river on the Snake since we were shorebound. For the first two hours in the spot we were at we didn't catch anything, at first I was using worms and something kept stealing my bait, most likely pikeminnow so I switched that bait out for crappie, while she had trout on at first. I moved along the shoreline about a hundred yards away from her while she said her pole went in the water and she grabbed it and started reeling it in, she finally told me she had something on once she got stuck on the rocks because we were using too heavy of weight and ended up losing the fish when I went back over there to get the weight off. No bait on the hook so I'm guessing she actually did have a bite. I moved back over to where she was at and casted with the crappie cutbait, I got a bite on my pole and she grabbed the pole, I told her to wait until the pole was moving 5 seconds first, since sometimes catfish tend to just mouth the bait and not take the whole bait. She didn't listen and lost the fish when she set the hook. Casted it back out and 10 minutes later had a good bite and set the hook, and brought the fish in. We ended up getting 2 more bites on the crappie cutbait on my pole but weren't able to get them in, one just got off halfway in and the other one, the weight got stuck on the rocks again and once I finally broke the weight off the fish was off the hook. So we ended up catching 1 fish and losing 4. I only had 4 ounce weights with me since I had left all my 2 and 3 ounce weights with my dad from last year on his boat and there was basically no current that day with the river, causing the headache of getting caught in the rocks. The bites came within a 2 hour period, we left when we were still getting bites but we wanted something to eat so headed to the diner in Starbuck. Might try heading back up there one of these days to rent a kayak and fish the mouth of the palouse, if not my dad is coming up in June for our annual catfishing trip!
