this report is for the squamish river, in squamish bc canada.
ill start by saying the squamish river is in full tilt pink salmon season. at the peak of the season even.
my wife arrived at the river at 2pm. the conditions; hot, sunny and windy, not ideal time or conditions. crowds were flogging the water to a froth with every know technique there was, lots of flyfisherman, nymphers, streamer swingers etc, gear guys throwing all varieties of spoons, spinners, float/Jig set ups.. very few jig twitchers i noticed. very very few rolling fish. water clarity was at around 8" not feet, inches... like a river of concrete....
so i get to my spot and ask how deep the water is, and the guy next to me replies, "3'-4'" im shocked.. i walked right by much deeper, better looking holding water, yet everyone is fishing here. my thought was "the crowd doesnt lie"
the first lure i tie on wasa size 3 mepps modified withva pink barbless nymph as the hook. 3rd cast in i hook up and land my first pink... here i am in a foreign country, fishing foreign conditions, burmt yet still end up being that guy who strolls up mid afternoon makes a few casts and hooks up... needless to say i got hit on all manner of techniques and lures throughout the 2 hours i was there. the limit is 2, so i limited, released 6 others, lost dozens of fish to light hooksets/barbless hooks. and had pretty much constant action fishing the river of concrete.
ill be here all week thete will be more reports to come.
