day 2 of squamish river murderfest
i arrived at the river around 9:30 am. i decided to strictly use a fly rod today. i brought along my 3wt redington ct rod and floating line set up. my fly of choice was a clouser. i also caught fish on some oddball maribou streamers i tied up.
3rd cast within the 1st minute of fishing and bam! i get a hard take followed by a reel screaming run. a decent fight ensues but i managed to land this bright fiesty hen despite the barbless hook. i thought about letting it go but ended up bonking it because my wife wants decently bright fish like this one. the very next cast after i get that fish bled and secured. and my line stops mid swing and starts going up stream i set the hook and its on. after 5 minutes i catch and release a larger darker buck hump back and all. back to back fish on in roughly 8 total minutes of fishing. 6 of those minutes fighting fish 1 minute bleeding a fish and 1 minute of actual honest to goodness fishing. this is how the next 2 hours were. there was lots of flyfisherman and legitamate gear fisherman out.. but also a few less than admiral people out. one guy kept yanking and purposefully trying to snag fish regardless of how insanely bitey they were. there was a distinct line of fisherman all fishing the right way.. except one other guy who decided he needed to wade in up to his chest way out in front of everyone. luckily my swing ended up about 20ft behind him lol. i caught and hooked upbwith countless fish behind him. i couple of my fish ran straight towards him and decided to surface and splash around very close to him... i couldnt help it i laughed pretty hard at that. eventually he took notice and stepped back a dozen yards or so lol.
eventually i decided my 3wt and flies took enough abuse and retained my 2nd bright fish to finish my limit and called it a day.
ill have plenty more reports after this.
