Well Friday was the last day for blackmouth in area 7 and I have to say it was a great day. I have been utilizing this page for months researching and asking questions and it definitely paid off. Friday was my first and definitely not my last day out. Me and a buddy launched at 0830 and headed out to the San Juans from Anacortes. We got to where we were going to fish at about 9am and started to troll a purple haze flasher with a purple and glow hoochie with twinkle skirt and 3/0 gamakatsu. on the other down rigger we ran a red racer flasher with a cookies and cream king fisher spoon. trolled at 110' in 120' of water.
Well it paid off. within 20 min of trolling the rod released from the clip and BAM! Started to peel line and after I realized the drag was way to loose I started to reel in my first blackmouth. A quick net job by my buddy and I had my first Hatchery Blackmouth in the boat. at 6.5 Lbs I was more than happy and ready to do it again. the rest of the day we missed 3 fish due to our own inexperience. All in all it was a great day and a beautiful trip. I look forward to heading down to area 8-1 and 8-2 this next weekend to try my hand at some places I've never been.
