Hit Alice Lake with the prospects of the weather going south on us tomorrow. Got on the water around 4:30pm. Sunny, very warm and water temperature was elevated. I had my flygear with me, primarily hunting for bass. Started out working the docks and weedlines using my foam Chernobyl Ant and quickly was catching small bass (to 7") on practically every cast. While it may not sound like much fun to some, it actually sharpens one's skills. Large fish are easy to catch. It's the small ones that require alot more technique and effort. So if you're just starting out flyfishing or are introducing someone to the style, take 'em to a panfish lake where they'll have lots of strikes.
As I made my way over to the shady part of the lake, the action actually got better. The best area however, was the lily pads at the far end from the launch. Here, I managed to lip two bass that were both pushing well over a pound and both hit my ant in the same opening in the pads. They were the biggest bass I've ever caught in this lake.
