I spent May the fourth be with you chasing Wally the Hutt and his henchman Biggie Smalls; we also ran into the dreaded bounty hunter Crappie Fett.
But seriously, we fished the Arm and caught 50+ eyes mainly on jigs. We kept 9 eaters between 16 & 21 inches, released six eyes over 22 inches that included a 4, two 5s, a 6 and one 8+ lb. spawned out female. We landed several nice smallies up to 5 lbs. and I caught one 15 inch crappie. We fished all of the usual areas you would expect to fish this time of year. The water temp is already in the low 50s and the spawn won't last too much longer. The water is very low and going up river is dangerous to anyone unfamiliar with Arm; we watched one small boat grind into some rocks. Ouch!
One last note: I have no problem with people keeping 10+ lb. eyes but if you do, at least use a sharp knife (learning how to fillet correctly wouldn't hurt also) so you don't waste half of the meat while you hack at it.
