I had to run errands in am but wanted to get some fishing from my kayak in before thunderstorms hit and before it got too hot.

Went 10:30am to 2:30pm saw two guys leaving said got a few trout and one guy got skunked. I went to left of launch and started with top water perch rapala, buzzbait blue/white and swim jig bluegill...tossed the buzzbait and saw movement in shallows good sign...switched to rapala and had wakes, swirls, and taps all around my lure...about 3rd cast fish on...2 minutes in on the board small largemouth bass 8". Good start next few casts same swirls, wakes, pops, but no fish...sounded from hits like bluegills and I had #7 rapala on so they couldn't eat it. Worked my way to first dock again lots of action but just the one fish. Went around the corner of the dock...and first cast good hit but he missed it...2nd cast by dock spooked a big fish as he splashed...had same issues going down the west side...lots of wakes, swirls, pops and nips but no fish stupid bluegills. They were in shallows and some in mid pads.

Got to blue house and spooked a couple big ones in the shallows but no bites but saw the wakes.

Finally got 2nd fish at newer dock in channel it was windy and threw the rapala to left of pads but wind put me in the pads and 2nd movement fish on...after good fight and avoiding lily pads 11" Bass landed. I usually get a few bites in that channel just had the one.

I forgot fishing in the kayak need to bring my anchor and tire chains (yep use those in my small boat to offset my weight). Kayak is 12ft and nose light so you get blown around a lot...and 2nd time fishing out of it and lower in water my casting accuracy was suffering and could of lead to the tougher day. Went past dock looks like the owner is tearing it up and replacing boards. Got another big swirl and one more fish 9" bass on top water rapala. Was getting hot by then and getting a little burnt sunscreen wasn't helping. So headed for home.

Have to find me some smaller bluegill lures but good to see some action right away and warming up.

All fish catch and released.

James

How do you like your yak? I was thinking of getting one last year till a buddy let me borrow his to try it out. To unstable for my fat ass. Hahaha. I'm sticking to my pontoon for the small ponds. It's not as mobile but more stable for me.

It's ok only 3rd time using it for fishing and still haven't figured out where everything goes. I forgot to bring some weights for the front I only weigh 162lbs and 5'9". I like the paddling in it you pants get wet sometimes. It took me a few times to try and figure best way to get it on and off the CR-V. I bought the roof rack and that works to hold it fine. I bought a better paddle at Walmart $20 job that has three different settings for the oars and rubber rings at the end for splash...seems to work ok. I still hook the other pole behind me from time to time as I forget it's there and casting has been a challenge as I am lower in the water and going more sideways then over head. So with my top water minnow casting is critical to hit the right spot. I do like it better when it's windy and got it for the exercise. I got the Sundolphin 12ft model blue at Walmart $320 or so it doesn't weigh much and has two pole holders behind you and seat is cushioned on front and bottom and comfy. Best feature is compartment right in front of you that is flat holds my wallet, cell phone and a snack just fine. I did have to go to bag tackle box and my smaller cooler won't fit so that is annoying.
