There is something going on with the lake. It started fishing tough before the derby. There are guides that have decided to stop fishing stevens for the rest of this year. A lot are pointing at a die off that occurred 2 year ago due to a bad alum treatment. I don't know if that's it or not, or if has just been this funky lack of a spring, then a sudden temp shift. But so far this year I've yet to mark a ton of fish, and all of my fishing was pre-derby. I can tell you that there were a lot less people fishing in the derby this year than is years past. It was a disappointing turn-out for an event that benefits a couple of good organizations. The derby in the past hasn't effected the fishing, and with far less people fishing the derby this year, with far less fish caught, it wasn;t the derby that has caused the poor fishing.

if you makes you feel better RL44 i fished the derby from 530-11am with out a single bite. i fished the whole water column from top lining to 70ft with 2 lines in between.

Cxlumpy I fished the derby from 4:30 to 1:30. I only had 1 in the box by noon. I did get 6 in the last hour and a half. But that was not the norm for people. Fewer boats this year, and from everyone i talked to on the water and at the weigh in, no one did real good, and there were a lot of 1-3 fish caught or outright skunks. About a week to 2 weeks prior to the derby even guides were commenting on how tough the bite was and weren't limiting their boats like they always do. Something weird has happened to the lake this year. The derby has zero to do with the tough bite. I am hoping its not the die off that some are suggesting from 2 years ago, rather just the long winter and unusual spring.

Josh-

There was a discussion on Lake Stevens kokanee and the alum treatments on the forum section of this site in 2015. I just posted comments on that thread bring that discussion to the top of the Trout and Kokanee Fishing forum.

Some may interested in that discussion and may wish to continue those discussions.
