I wasn't planning on taking the boat out today, but my friend Todd text me that he was fishing at Ward lake and having no luck. I gave him my thoughts to improve his luck, and I told him I would head down with my boat to see how he was doing. I called my friend J.R. to see if he wanted to join me. He said sure and we meet at the lake around Noon. The water temp at the surface was in the 70's so a big change from last week. I decided to fish a little deeper fishing rods between 24-34 feet. We hooked up pretty quick and it was a smaller sized rainbow at 29 feet, then hit another one at 27. Todd started catching fish as well using a pink hootchie. J.R. and I were using a pink Nerka bug and a chrome lucky craft, as well as a chrome and blue. Next think you know J.R. hooked into a nice one about a 16 inch cutty on the chrome crankbait. We hit another one at 30 ft on the pink Nerka bug, then we nailed 4 more cutthroat on the crankbaits. We ended up hooking 14 fish. We finished our day with 9 in the box and the other fish being released. Todd came by in his boat earlier and told me he his two Kokanee a 20 feet on the hootchies they were 13-14 inch. I still seem to miss the kokanee. It was a beautiful day on the water though. I captured a cooler clip showing the cutthroat, but for some reason my sd card was having issues, and the go pro did not capture any of the fish being reeled in.
