7 a.m.. My first time on this lake. Followed shoreline starting south of public launch, casting/trolling a perch Rapala along the way without luck. Low visibility water, very muddy in appearance. Switched to bright jig tipped with worm; hooked a sun fish and one 4" largemouth from between the south end of main lake, through the "U" and around to the falls (a long way). Skipped fishing the very north end and creek mouth, moving instead thru the narrow east-side channel to the deep pocket of the lake's southeast arm.

11 a.m.. Found fish regularly working the still-shadowed rock and talus of the east shore. Caught and released another sun fish and one small largemouth from along this edge. Water deepens quickly here. Then tried trolling small Flatfish and worm-tipped Wedding Ring behind double willow-blade off 2 colors of leaded line. Finally, hard strikes on both types of lures! Missed hookin' 'em tho'...

Nearly noon. Sun now high and hot. Two other boats arrived, one fly fishing and the other trolling Wedding Rings on spin gear with a quarter ounce weight. The trollers hooked a fish every other pass or so. I switched to spin gear, drifting boat close to that east shore, gently bouncing PowerBait on No. 8 worm hook and 18-inch leader ahead of small slip sinker. Landed my limit of 'bows by 2 p.m. with one 14" plus three 12" and one 10" -- every one of them solid fighters with beautiful coloring.

General notes. Was suprised to see the game warden; passed the check a-okay by sticking to the rules and having license and life vests. Saw many other boaters on the main lake in the afternoon; fish early or weekdays to avoid the crowd. Take a camera; saw deer, a dozen wild turkey, osprey, many turtles, a few ducks, a variety of song birds on this trip. Same evening: lemon pepper, foil wrap, and BBQ, these fish tasted great; no taint from the muddy water noted. All things considered, another great day in the outdoors.

Alternative route: Travel north on Highway 2 toward Newport. Turn left at Eloika Lake Road. Continue east for a few miles, turning right onto North Division Road. Continue north. Road turns into Horseshoe Lake Road. After the pavement ends, you'll pass the Sherman Road intersection. Continue on Horseshoe Lake Road for an additional 4 miles to the public launch on the right side.
