I got to fish Lake Merwin with my friends Robbie and Mark. Having fished Yale yesterday as part of The Fallen Outdoorsevent, we decided to hit Merwin and try for some bigger fish and a change of scenery.

We hit the water at 6am and ran midway down the lake to an area of houses across from the stump forest. We were running six lines with the same set ups we used yesterday on Yale (see that report for specifics).

The first area produced a fish right off the bat, and a little while later a lost fish, but after an and a half of trolling we decided to move and give the dam area a shot.

When we arrived there were a couple boats already working the area. We noticed right away a few more fish marks and started catching a few more fish (and missing a few, LOL). It wasn’t red hot fishing by any means. The fish are bigger on Merwin than Yale. We caught fish in the 12-15” range vs. 10-12” range.

With a Honey Do list awaiting at home and a birthday dinner to go to (yes, my birthday!) we pulled lines at 10:15 and returned to the dock with six nice fish in the bucket.

On a side note, on the advice of Darren Prouty, owner of Precision Propeller in Spokane, I had raised my motor up two holes after he swapped a stainless steel prop on to my motor. What a significant improvement in performance! Nice jumping out of the hole and an honest four mph top end increase. I now have a max speed of 41.1 mph with three in the boat vs. my previous 37 mph. Sweet!
