Plans fell through for me this morning, and I decided to fish solo anyways... I was planning to head to Sammamish with my Dad, but he couldn't make it. Decided to hit nearby Lake Sawyer instead. I had the boat in the water around 7:15am, but got a little distracted by a decent sized Largemouth near the launch, in 2-3 fow. I promptly scared him away with a big creature jig... showed him!

Cutthroat was the target for the most part, but I directed 1 rod more towards the never ending Sawyer Kokanee search. There's probably not enough room on this page to list all the gear I tried and how... But I cycled through a lot of trolling methods, depths and tackle. Corn, Worms, powerbaits, shallow deep, fast and slow..... I fished till noon, and threw in the towel. 2 dink bass and 2 six inch perch kept the trip from being a skunk. Lots of fish marks on the sonar, but I think there are a lot of bass and perch suspended around the lake too.

I had barely made it home before the 20 minute monsoon rainstorm hit.
Amx was still out there bass fishing when I left.... I hope Amx did better than me, and didn't get too wet!

Na, I got SLIGHTLY, maybe, sorta, sprinkled on for 30 seconds. But I was catching Bass at the time. Ended up with 4, but nothing over a pound. All Largies. Senko and crankbait. I didn't try for your 3 pounder, but I might next trip, next week. lol

That was like 8 hours ago... I'm calling it a 5 pounder now.... Lol

Curious... That largie was cruising back and forth side to side along the shore about 8ft from shore, 50ft of shoreline, then back the other way. He/she probably did that 5 times. What the heck was it doing? Would that be a male guarding eggs? Trying to distract me from a nest?

She is probably waiting for a male to show up, lead her to his bed, and seduce her.

Thanks for posting! Somebody is bound to find a Kokanee in there...can't believe every single one they've planted have become bass food! ;-)

amx says he finds little kokes sometimes, but Ive been hunting them at least twice a year for the last few years.... more recently, since the meridian koke deficiency. No dice. There are locals that say they can catch kokanee still, but the last record I can find (on nw fishing) is from 2009, posted on a trout report. There were actually quite a few caught around that time and they were big healthy looking kokes. At least one was 17 inches, and it was bycatch from someone targeting cutts. I'm gonna try chumming and jigging them sometime soon. Maybe even try the glow hook/ loon lake night fishing method? Anyone know why chumming is allowed on Sawyer? Maybe it was a popular kokanee method in the past?

I haven't caught a Koke in maybe 5 or more years. I use to catch a little 6 to 8 inch koke or 3 each spring before I would catch my first Bass for the year.
