Was on the water at 6:30 this morning encouraged by a few good reports from the big lake. Ran over to the Southern tip of Mercer and dropped the downrigger to 35' with a blade and hoochie. Saw fish right away. Had not been out ten minutes when the pole shook and the release let go. Just as my hand closed around the pole to pull it out it gave a mighty shake and went limp. One on and one lost!
Went another ten minutes and it started all over again. This time I got to reel one all the way in but had to release the 20" blackmouth. Still, two in that amount of time had me hopeful for a busy day! About an hour later I got another hit and had it to the boat when it shook off. That was fine as it was another blackmouth. Looked a little smaller than the other one.
That was it for the next three hours when I called it a day. Tried a couple other things and could see lots of fish but no more bites. Could be the front that was moving in... I hope it gets good for the tourney tomorrow!
