Went with buddy Steve on his brand new 28' Duckworth Ocean Sport...wow, what an amazing ride. Ocean was flat calm & only 1.2 hours to the SW corner. First stop..nothing but 3 skate. Moved no more than 200 yards & game on...pulled 10 huge ling from that one drift (5 on board) and 3 nice halibut). Moved a bit to get away from the lings..put the pipe jigs away & dropped a couple spreaders with salmon bellies on...almost immediate hook-ups & done with our 5 halis. Head to shore...35 black rocks in short order...very nice grade! Back at the dock at 3. Amazing day, amazing ocean, amazing resource. Saw pilot whales, porpoises, humpback whales, herring, salmon (jumping)....just a very cool day.

Great day on the water with the kids! It gave them a break from the distractions of the day.

We should all exercise some restraint on the number and size of bottom fish we keep. Black rockcod (rockfish) seem plentiful now but then 35 years ago, pacific true cod were all over in the Puget Sound. They're gone now. Same with ling cod. I don't mean to pontificate, but we're all witnessing diminishing fisheries. Our kids and grandkids may never see or experience what we consider a never ending supply of fish.
