I decided to head back to Meridian after catching that 18.5 Kokanee on the last trip. I arrived at the lake at 6 am and launch the boat form the beach. The normal launch ramp is still closed apparently. I was the only one out on the water first thing in the morning. I put a orange/pink tube down on one rod and a pink nerka bug on the other. I fished 26-30 ft deep to start. I was trolling for about 10 minutes and I hooked up with a nice Kokanee that I would say was 17 inch plus. I was trying to net it and as I tried to scoop it decided to run and it ended up shaking the hook. I thought this is going to be great I'm glad I got her early. Unfortunately that was the only kokanee action I experienced for the day. I tried various colors, adjusted depths. I still found the fish to be hitting at 26 and 30 ft. I ended up catching four trout on the pink nerka bug and on and excel spoon in popsicle color. I ended up taking about about 10 because the action was pretty slow. I don't think there is a very big population of Kokanee in the lake this year. The three that I have hooked in the last two trips were all really big for the west side though. I am not sure I will make the two hour drive again this year for one kokanee though.
