My first outing for the year. Wow that's late. Put fresh gas in and motor started right up. Woot.
Clear sunny sky. Water temp mid 60s. Water has some color to it. Smooth as glass...
Starting with swimbait and crank on a deep dock on a point. First cast of the year at a little after 9. Worked towards the shallow side. Nothing. Go over it with a dropshot, nothing.
Move to new area working it a little bit deeper. Get a nibble on swimbait, but no hook ups.
Move shallow and started working a row of docks. See little fries. Catch a couple of dinks. Felt nice to catch something. Moving on, I set the hook on the DS on the shadow side of a dock and breakoff. Ugh, that's what i get for using a knot from LAST year, LOL. Went ahead and re-tie all the other ones.
I motor to Fart Hole and on first cast, feel a nibble, but miss. Follow up with DS and set the hook. A dink SMB but it was so skinny, looks like a trout profile.
Caught a handful more there quickly and they were similar shaped. Not seeing anything decent, motored across the lake. There's a nice wind now. Worked a few rows of dock with nothing to show for it. Boated further north and worked a flat shallow sandy area. Couldnt see if there were any empty beds or not. Fished the docks and deeper edge. Blank.
Getting a bit gusty and its about noon with sun directly overhead. Stopped off at Fart Hole for a few casts and on 2nd cast, get a strike. Set the hook and feels like a decent fish. It surfaces and i see it's a decent sqauwfish. Ugh, biggest fish of the day will be this squaw. A few more casts with no bites, left the hole.
Decided 1 last stop at the dock i broke off on. 3rd cast at it, set the hook and wow, this feels like a big one, i think.
Start reeling, but now it's pulling drag. Yep, must be a big one. Surfaces and see it's a big LMB. I can see it trying to spit my barbless hook. After a while, i finally manage to scoop it in the 2nd attempt. Woot. A little over 19" @ 4.40#. Ahhh yeah!
Made a few more casts at neighbor dock, but figure this was a good final fish.
