First time at Rattlesnake Lake and showed up at the lake at 7am. Launched my 12 ft tinny boat at the decent-enough launch and the wind blew me right back into shore. Was pretty cold for summer day but the water felt warm although I didn't pay attention to what my Deeper fish finder showed on that. Maybe 63?
Anyway, 2 of us tried trolling some thin-bladed spoons - triple teasers and dick nites. We caught 3 beautiful fish all between 12 and 14 inches in the first hour and then nothing until we left at 11am. My buddy caught his on a light weight so he couldn't have been more than 6-7 feet below the surface. I used my mini down rigger fishing about 15-20 feet down to get the other 2. I was marking fish on the finder at 15 ft down and all the way down to the bottom at deeper parts of the lake around 50 ft down.
My battery died on my phone and so I was without a fish finder the last 30 minutes which ended up costing me my down rigger ball. It got hung up on something and before I could get the boat to stop, it snapped off. Ugh. Prior to that, I was constantly pulling the ball up and down to avoid that problem since there's all sorts of stumps in the lake. I think next time I'll just use a 1 oz weight and a long leader and keep it simple.
Bottom line is there were plenty of fish in there and I want to go back and figure out how to get 'em more consistently!
