American freshwater fishing for the most part is new to me, most of my fishing is saltwater or freshwater in the UK. So today after work I took my kayak out to lake Cassidy to target Crappie (and pretty much anything else). The weather was a little overcast but calm and the few showers going through the area were missing the lake.
I headed straight out from the launch to the far bank and had a bite on the first cast, second cast saw me boating a smallish perch, the very next cast was a nice size crappie, the third cast had me boating what I first thought was a bluegill but later identified as a pumpkinseed, so two new fish to add to my species list.
The skies started to clear and the bite went off just like that, I was able to tempt a few more perch but after about an hour of no action I called it a day.
I also tried casting a frog into the lilies for bass but not takes on that either.
For a quick two hour trip it was fun and the paddling is a good workout for me.
