Backpacked to Margaret Lake Saturday July 22, 2017; got to the lake around 7 and setup camp, fished for an hour or so in the evening. Got up early the next morning and fished for a couple hours before breaking camp and heading out.

The fish weren't rising in the evening or the morning; some were jumping for unknown fishy reasons, though. I did manage to land one 9 or 10 inch rainbow in the evening on an olive streamer on the north side of the lake.

No luck at all in the morning, but I did get to watch a number of fish examine, then ignore, various flies I threw at them. I tried terrestrials (spider, ant) and a couple streamers.

A couple other folks at the lake reported trying rooster tails and powerbait on spinning gear with no luck.

You can get shore access from good chunks of the south and west sides of the lake; didn't get a chance to try the north or east sides. We tried following the trail that leads around the east side of the lake, but it peters out and we turned back.

The northwest corner of the lake has some nice underwater dropoffs where quite a few fish were hanging around; I'd suggest trying this spot if you don't mind working your way across the rock field. The water's so clear and the shore so steep that sneaking up on them is nearly impossible, though.

For folks using a fly rod: there are a couple spots with room for backcasting, but you probably want to practice your roll cast.

If you go, bring bug spray and then bring some more. I've never seen so many mosquitoes in my life.

Thanks!

Not sure why the second pic is upside down, but it's supposed to be a pretty good overhead shot, from the mountain overlooking the lake.

This is a nice little lake, I was there last year and had a few follows on spinners, then using a fly under clear bobber had a fish hit the bobber. Other than that they just checked out the flys and then swam away.
